Instruments

Instruments are the things you invest in—for example, a security or stock like Apple, a cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin, or an AAPL $100 call option. Profit currently supports three instrument types. Before you add buy or sell transactions, you must first add the corresponding instrument.

Securities

A security is a stock like Apple or an ETF such as the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF. Profit already knows the most popular securities, so adding them is as easy as searching by name or ticker symbol. If the security you need isn’t found, you can add it manually.

Securities require ticker symbols so that Profit can download historical prices and current quotes. You can look up ticker symbols in the Stocks app that ships with iOS and macOS, for example.

If you configure the correct ticker symbol, stock splits are downloaded and applied automatically.

Options

Profit offers first-class support for U.S. call and put options. Note that Profit currently has no access to historical prices for expired options.

Cryptocurrencies

You can add popular cryptocurrencies to Profit with just a few clicks or taps. As with securities, if your coin isn’t found, you can add it manually—just provide its name and ticker symbol.
